Ignition EFM Emerson ROC module

EFM Emerson ROC Module

Retrieves Emerson ROC EFM data

The Emerson ROC EFM module serves as a driver Ignition. It communicates with Emerson ROC and ROC Plus flow computers. By utilizing this module within the Ignition platform, EFM (Electronic Flow Measurement) data is retrieved and made available as tags in the Ignition OPC browser. Additionally, the module polls and collects alarm, event, and QTR (Quantitative Transaction Record) data for further transmission to the enterprise or other flow calculation services.

Utilize MQTT with the EFM Emerson ROC module

Using the MQTT protocol with the EFM Emerson ROC module involves installing Ignition or Ignition Edge with this module, which then extends to the network edge. This distribution optimizes bandwidth usage across radio or other IP networks, resulting in longer SCADA data response times. Below are typical architectural solutions when using this module.

Using the highly efficient MQTT protocol, only event changes are sent to the host. The advantage of this approach is that real-time data is transmitted upon change, while continuously monitoring ensures that alarms, events, and QTR records are only sent when available.

For years, outdated protocols have relied on complex sequences of registers to transmit data, essentially capturing information. These methods are prone to issues in data integrity and require frequent polling by a host over the network to check for new events. With this module, data such as alarms, events, and QTRs are extracted from the flow computer and placed into an MQTT record as an immutable object with a timestamp and checksum, then directly sent to a database table at the host. The MQTT Recorder module is required for delivering MQTT records.

Benefits of the EFM Emerson ROC module when used with MQTT modules:

  • Supports ROC and ROC Plus protocols for SCADA, TLPs, and all EFM data.
  • Operates on the Ignition and Ignition Edge platforms.
  • Provides access to any TLP, including those from user programs (e.g., Vinson Engineering).
  • Supports alarms, events, configurations, minute history, periodic history, and daily history records.
